The day began like any other June Sunday morningchilly and quiet, save for the tolling church bells calling upon worshippers for a date with their maker. As hymns rent the still morning air, lady fate lay in wait for her prey. And when she pounced, there came deafening silence. A dark cloud of grief engulfed the Kenyan skiesthe very skies that carried the ill-fated chopper. Charred bodies of Prof. George Saitoti, his deputy, Hon. Orwa Ojode, two pilots and two others from the security detail were to be found beside a smouldering wreck that was once a helicopter. This was to be one of the darkest days we have ever had.
