Menzie Yere will be a better rugby league player than Stanley Gene. He has the phase and skill to shine in England.
He will be playing NL1 and if all goes well he might promote his club to Super League. Well doen Menizie.
Stanley i pulap long mauswara! Yu kam long England - yu gat sampela ol brata istap. All yu kan do is do your best and make sure the Super League teams notice you.
This is a brilliant news. Sheffield Eagles are the 2nd tier top rugby league team in England. Menzie will ne notice by the Super League teams. He has done well for himself.
Menzie you will have the support in England. Go over there and do your best mate.
I hope this is a reminder to Kumul Coach Adrian Lam that local SP Intercity Kumul stars are capable of playing the game internationally. This young Simbu lad will go a long way in British RL. Sheffield Eagles are a top team in NL1 - the Eagles just missed the top spot for entry into the super league comp.
Makali Aizue was part of the Hull K R squad which qualified and entered the Super League. And I am sure Menzie Yere will do the same for Sheffield Eagles.......
This is a credit the Hagen Eagles product, who has been a useful member of the successful Agmrak Guria of Kokopo.
Common Menzie! I am absolutely positive that you will do well. Get your visa sorted and get over to rugby league mad Yorkshire!
I can see this Hagen brought-up Kokopo based mang Simbbu doing as well as Makali Aizue. I believe that Aizue did very well with Hull K R when his team was still in NL1. After a couple of years in Super League play-offs, Hull K R eventually won the NL1 grand final and was subsequently promoted to Super League (that is how Brit rugby league operates). Aizue as we all know now is an established Super League prop!
I can see Menzie Yere being simply too good at NL1. He is going to be too fast and his bone crunching tackles are brilliant. He will make a great in NL1 and I will not be one iota surprised if he is very instrumental in bring Sheffield Eagles into the Super League next season (they have some other good players in the team).
Disciplne is key to success and I hope he turns out to be a true PNG professional. I can also see this kid doing very well in England. There were rumuors are few years back that he was likely to be scouted by some international clubs and finally it has happened.
He has every chance of breaking into the Super League just like Makali Aizue did for Hull K R.
John Wilshere was playing in NL1 last season and his team Salford got promoted so he will be playing the Super League against the likes of Hull K R duo Gene and Aizue.
Menzie's Sheffield Eagles team are a top NL1 team so PNG do not be surprised if we find Menzie and the Eagles in the Super League in Season 2010 (that would be amazing for this Simbu lad). Credit should go to Hagen Eagles and Rabaul Gurias for grooming this fine piece sportsman. I have seen him play and he is quicker and defensively better - with the right type of professional coaching and training regime - Menzie will become a firebrand PNG backliner.
Gee...thats news, only a few weeks ago, they were down here for the World cup and we were cruizing around the Strands having some odd foods from their usual menu at the hotel.
To me, that guy was very disciplined and a men of few words. He was composed and never showed his frustration eventhough he wasn't given a chance to play in the first two World cup games.
We were fuming over Adrian Lam's choice of other players and overlooking players of Menzie's profile.
I think that guy is shaping up for something big in the rugby league world.
He only touched the ball a few times in the last world cup game against Aussie and scored the lone try (which we asked him for), it must have been his SP Cup form that got him the contract.
Congratulations to him and his coaching teams at Eagles and Gurias.
Nothing the Kumuls coaching team did that got him the spot so they shouldn't be beating their chests..

SHEFFIELD Eagles boss Mark Aston is confident his two Papua Guinea signings will settle in well - despite flying into a South Yorkshire winter. Forward Trevor Exton and centre Menzie Yere are due to arrive in Sheffield for pre-season training next month.
First to arrive is Exton - who has been playing in Australia with Queensland Cup side Ipswich Jets. But Yere has spent all his career in sub-tropical Papua and is in for a chilly introduction to the British game. Aston says the club will do everything possible to help the player settle in quickly and says the more experienced Exton will have a key role.
"Trevor has been in Australia for number of years and he's accustomed to the lifestyle and being involved in a club and he's going to settle in easily," said Aston. "Menzie may be a bit different. He's coming straight from Papua New Guinea but with the support we will give him and the knowledge that Trevor has from playing in Australia he'll settle in. I'm sure that both will enjoy it here and I'm looking forward to working with them. They will both add a lot to the squad."

Yere just easily scored 3 tries against their rival, Doncaster Rovers in the Championship on Easter Good Friday - the match was live on Sky Sports UK. The commentators were so impressed. It won't be long before he catches the eyes of some of the Super League clubs, says one of the commentators.
I've heard so much about this lad and have never seen him play live - but having watched him on TV on Friday; I can say that he is the real deal (probably more talented as a centre). He easily fend off and side stepped some of the Donnie players so easily, that the commentators were so impressed.
Sheffield Eagle fan chat rooms have praises for this guy - Menzie is a class act!
He played really well last week. Was too strong, powerful and fast for his opposite centre. I think that a few super league clubs will definitely be watching him to see if it was a oen off or he is genuinely that good. I think he could handle the big step up to the european super league.
EAGLES 22 v DONCASTER 23: DONCASTER staged a smash and grab raid to beat Sheffield Eagles in the South Yorkshire derby at Don Valley last night.
It wasn't a classic but there was nail-biting drama on offer with a drop goal five minutes from time by Paul Handforth snatching the win - their first in the Championship - in front of the Sky TV cameras.
Papua New Guinea centre Menzie Yere blasted his way to a hat-trick of tries but the Eagles as a team failed to perform.
Loose-forward Kyle Briggs was outstanding and the Doncaster forwards refused to let the Eagles pack take control.
"We didn't perform - we didn't turn up at the races," said a downcast coach Mark Aston.
"We didn't touch the ball for 15 minutes. I'm very disappointed. Our discipline was indifferent and we gave some dumb penalties away.
"We got beaten by an enthusiastic, committed team and we didn't know how to beat them."
A frantic opening four minutes saw Doncaster race into a 12-0 lead with the Eagles barely getting a touch of the ball.
From the game's first play loose-forward Kyle Briggs' chip kick bounced off Damian Gibson's chest and back in the arms of winger Gaz Carey, who touched down. Briggs added the goal.
Doncaster's second try came when scrum-half Handforth took former Eagles' hooker Craig Cook's pass and raced in under the posts. Briggs again added the goal.
Following a grapple tackle Briggs increased the lead to 14-0. The try the Eagles desperately needed came when stand-off Brendon Lindsay's chip to the corner was touched down by Yere. Jonny Woodcock added the goal from the touchline.
The Eagles brought on Fijian international half-back Aaron Groom from the bench for his debut and the Fijian, Lindsay and Woodcock produced a passing move that sent Yere in for his second try and at the break the Eagles had cut the deficit to 14-10.
The Eagles went ahead when from Lindsay's pass Groom twisted over the line by the posts. Woodcock added the goal.
But Mark Castle forced his way over the try line and Briggs added the goal to restore Doncaster's lead.
Instantly the Eagles hit back with Yere taking Lindsay's long pass to complete his hat-trick of tries. Wood added the goal for a two point lead.
Doncaster levelled the scores on 66 minutes when an obstruction gifted Briggs an easy penalty. Going into the final minutes Handford for Doncaster and Kyle Wood for Sheffield attempted to drop goals - then came Handforth's successful kick.
With two minutes to go Tangi Roparti seemed to scoot in for a try but the touchdown was ruled out by the video ref for ball stealing.
With time running away the Eagles, strangely, didn't try to set up a draw-saving drop goal position and the hooter sounded their defeat.
I personally dont think he is 25 years old,Im 30 years old and I think hes not honest with his age.
Thats the typical attitude of all PNG born and based players. Its about time we are honest with our age.Atleast you should be happy not many PNGeans will play oversease.
Anywhere ANGRA congrulations!
With that why dont u join the ENGLISH national side (apply for residency) and the world can give a stiff competition to the AUSSIES and KIWIS.
Menzie has done well for himself and it is not all rocket science. Any PNG rugby player can achieve such feats with that kind of talent whixh is abundant in PNG. Talent is one thing but but real commitment and relentless effort pays off. Markus Bai, Stanley Gene and now Menzie Yere are living proof of the possibility of making it pro. There are a few suchrare and raw talents going around in our BeMobile Cup comp and I only hope they continue to put their effort, time and commitment to meet chances half way. Nobody will notice you from a one off show. Congrats to Menzie once and to those young and not so young talents out there...... keep trying, your day might dawn one day.
