For those interested in netball news, netball season started early May and is about mid season for most. in Port Moresby the competition seemed to kick up a notch with amazing numbers turning up for games, the creation of new clubs and the use of facilities.
Rebels lead the competition mid season with Telstars and Paramana, last years premiers, making up the top set. Two new inclusions to the premier divsion, Veupunama and Aroma Coast are finding the level of competition a lot different from Division 1 and are getting smashed by the other more established clubs.
Competition in the other centres are also mid season and the focus now is for the annual National Championships which Port Moresby will host in October 2011.
Central Province Netball, Hiri (West) and Lagatoi (Hiri East) are currently having their tournaments for selections as will Poreporena (Motu Koita) and Port Moresby Netball.
There are currently 20 associations affiliated to Netball PNG (PNG Netball Federation) and they are expected to all attend with full contingents.
Full contingents refer to U13 - U21 in Junior and A, B and Masters divisions for the seniors.
On the national front the Pepe's have just come of a poor showing at the Pacific Netball Series hosted by PNG at the Waigani Indoor Stadium and will have to rethink its go forward from here if they are to have any impact at the Nations Cup in Singapore.
Three retirements to the side has left gaping holes in the teams defence and mid-court which is now the focus for the coaching staff to find solutions.
The retiree's include veteran midcourt specialist and captain, Mona Lisa Leka.
