The PNG International Cricket Team are visiting Melbourne next week.
Two matches are scheduled against the Mercantile Cricket Association.
The matches are part of the PNG team's preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup qualification tournament in Dubai in March. The 16 leading non-Test nations will play off in Dubai for two berths alongside the ten Test-playing nations at the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka next September.
The twilight T20 matches are on Tuesday January 17 at Righetti Oval (Kooyong) and Thursday January 19 at Brens Oval (Parkville, next to Melbourne Zoo). The matches will commence at 5.15pm.
Entry is free. A BBQ will be operating at the Brens Oval match and drinks will be available, or you can bring along a picnic.
Cricket PNG has asked the MCA to put it's two strongest possible combined sides forward to help their preparation program.
The Righetti game will be against an MCA Secretary's XI and recognises the contribution of Coles CC in helping PNG under-19 players gain Australian experience.
The Brens game, hosted by Parkville District CC, will be against an MCA First XI.
PNG is one of the rapidly rising non-Test nations on the ICC circuit. It has advanced from 23 to 19 in the world rankings in the last few years. The PNG under-19 side now ranks no.12 in the world, suggesting the country's climb will continue.
All are most welcome to attend the Melbourne matches.
