I would call Global West, Griggs or one of the other sources and ask. My bet is that they are the same. You could check the wheelbase of the Mustang vs Cougar for that year and if they are the same be pretty safe ordering connectors. If you own a welder and have some basic fabricating skill they are pretty easy to make. It is surprising nobody did this 30 years ago. My car is much different with connectors. Very positive change.
