DIWAI

Remember me as you were
As i remember you

Remember the sun,
The sun streaming a river of gold
With tender hands
Weaving delicate memories with each golden strand
Along the slow winding roads of Madang
As children run towards the beckoning sea
and being youth was free

Remember
The maniacal manic look in the eyes
A bilum full of books dangling by the side

As I remember you
Unsure and unsteady
Smiling so beautifully from afar
Smiling so beautifully from within

Across the grass fields
The shade
The classroom oasis
Underneath the Frangipani trees
In between the jokes,
The fights and the arguments
Beneath the tears and the laughter
Inside the words unspoken
Caught in the clasp of hands unbroken
The spirit of which we whispered
The feeling upon which it prospered

As I remember you
Somewhere from afar
Calling my name

As the years stretch and twist and rise
And ultimately end with the sun setting
on the day of our lives
Let me remember you always
As I saw you then
As My Freind
