Aha

I see no faces I can recognize
In this crowded room of honesty
I see no bare naked lies
There is no fakeness here to despise
Like the fakeness I feel inside
The fakeness that’s dear to me
The absurdity I prize

So I grab my jacket of the chair
My shoes of the floor
And wave my hands in the air
As I head for the door
I sigh Goodbye as I step out of the light
To join the world most dear to me
For tonight I leave your honesty in peace
And join the children of the night

For these children do not love me
but they lie and say they do
These children do not need me
yet act as if they do
These children though they lie
their lies are an idea truth
In that reflection i find
Here thus lies the power to choose

Very interesting piece. Would the author/poet mind if I may ask you to give a bit of a background to the poem? I would love to knowing what inspired the poem.

Ta ... Trish

The poem children of the night is a play on many different levels, the idea of truth really is a question about the concept of truth and who i am...I don't like the idea that i'm slowly becoming a corporate slave as my brain like an old inland sea dries up and all that's left is something regurgiated from the pages of some self Guru's great break through.
Lately I've found myself asking the question do i want to have that clean cut image, well fed with a rounded chin, reading Self Help books and driving a CRV and speakin english with an accent in SVS or Boroko foodworld whilst I am shopping for healthy brown bread and perving at 15 year old girls who dress like a digicel advert.
I also don't like how pop rap is passed as poetry, or how dressing up like Usher in 30 degrees heat makes you look cool or how in Port Moresby your family name is the big thing, stuff all of that, give me the lies, the second hand stores, the kai bars at night, the snooker houses, the smoky dens, the whores, the buai sellers, the gamblers, the idiots - let me descend to that level where they recognise me as someone who is not one of them yet does not want to be part of the group, the social cliche he belongs to...the group who speak english with an accent.

Aha, thanks for that explanation. I see it is a piece that comes from deep within you. The person inside you, trying to find his place in a world where he feels he does not fit in or loathes it for what it stands for. Forgive me if I'm wrong; but I feel that what you're going thru is more of a deep sense of meaninglessness you feel about the life you're living and would like to seek for something that gives you some meaning and purpose in your life. And that you hope to find outside of the cooperate world you're confined in now.

Now you may take or leave what I am going to say next, that's up to you, but here it is:
"The search for a meaning in life is a yearning that is inbuilt in every human being. Some turn to work, alcohol, partying and so many other things to find it. But I believe that this yearning in us is God's way of reaching out to us in our busy life, to let us know that there is a higher purpose in life. And that is to live a life that God's wants us to and he puts that yearning in us so that we may search for Him and find that life has a fuller meaning when lived with God in our hearts."

I do hope that you will consider what i've said, but thats up to you, I will only pray that you will give it a some consideration before chucking it out.

Peace be with you ....

Trish

I am not looking for God, trish. I do not wish to be a pilgrim. I'd rather be outside the gates of heaven, throwing 20 toea darts for coke.
