An ache to see
written on young faces
a countenance wrinkled
with desperate hope

Crawl, with apprehension
through the snake queues
to plead with the man
for another chance

to find a foothold
rr a toe space
on the rungs of the formal systems
to be indoctrinated
with the necessary instructions
to fit into
the order of establishment

some clasp tightly
to the precious hard earned ten paper kina
to shake the hands of the man
hoping that this will sway his decision
somehow in their favor

hence waking up rudely sober
learning a brutal lesson
in the power of bribery and corruption
that greases the wheels of the system...
