I Need To Have a Word With You

In reply to "Great!". This may or may not be what you hoped to read...

______________________________________________________________________

Bewilderment all around
Sentiments expressed oh so passionately
Frustration written on faces
Who will lead?

Silence falls on the gathering
Turning heads in the crowd
The question repeats in their eyes
One by one, heads drop to look to the ground

Murmuring follows
As streams of people
Are seen leaving the discussion
Their passion crushed with the unanswered call for a leader

Wait! Everyone wait for one second!
Collectively we voice our concern
And yet no one amongst us
Will champion our struggle

If you will trust me
Then let me be that person
A groan washes over the crowd
Who have turned from making their exit

Young man! Do you know what you are up against?
Silence!
Time has stood still
A cool breeze washes over the crowd

I am not naïve, I know what I will face
Before me, my foes are well-entrenched
Government officers on their payroll
Their cronies loyal to money and lust

If you, the people before me today
The people who have cried their want for change
Will give me your mandate and support
Let me be your leader

I will send corrupt entities to their grave
I will starve their principals of all their luxuries
I am not afraid to stare these thieving beasts in the eye
And take away from them, what belongs to you the people

I will draw strength from God
To say no to acquaintances and strangers alike
When an offer is brought under the table
And a life free from want beckons me, and me only

Gasps from the crowd
The suns burns the skin of those present
Yet the sting goes unnoticed
Before them, a leader has been born

Unfortunately despite your words, the reality is that no one will stand up and be our leader, at least a good leader who doesn't intend to be part of the next wave of thiefs or army dictators/. It's clear as water that there are no leaders on the PNG internet, not a single one!
Thanks for your nice poetry.
