Anxious smiles
in the friendly isles
a test in history?
for a fledgling democracy

why wont they
leave them alone
to chart their own
destiny

noone wants to listen
to what they have to say
trying to find a way
out of a bad question

a dilemma
causing great stress
in the south seas

created by a western empire
slave trading
blackbirding
forced plantation labor
in the fields of sugar

the ratus
and the young warriors
have proved themselves
on the worlds political stage
on the worlds rugby fields
and theaters or war

the spirit of Melanesia
grieves...
West Papua
now Fiji...

why wont someone listen
to what they have to say
trying to find a way
out of a bad question
