Location = 76 acres of mostly wooded land owned by a friend's grandmother.
Describe surroundings = The area was a large, mowed path that forks into the woods in many places and into many dfferent directions as you go down the trail. The fork nearest to the begining of the trail leads to a pond. It happened in some brush to the side of the trail.
How many witnesses = 3, but only two of us saw it.
The other was already in the house by the time we saw it.
Activities of witnesses = We had been hunting black birds with pelet guns and we were creeping up on some birds and we heard this sound. I don't no how to describe it because I haven't heard anything like it. And I'm in the woods quite a lot.
Story details = We were hunting some birds and we had just crouched to aim at them. Thats when we heard that godawful sound. It scared us so much we dropped our guns as we sprung up and ran. We waited a while after we were to safety (we thought whatever it was had gone.) We went to retrieve our guns and thats when it happened. With knives drawn we got our guns and ran. About 5 yards out of the brush. My friend and I turned and we saw a large, hairy, light black creature, partialy covered in the shadow of the trees above us. My fear at that point was so immense that things started to get blurry, but it gave me a little more speed. When we got to the house we checked to see if the creature was still there, but we caught sight of its leg tramping trough the brush.
Other observations = I don't understand why it didn't follow us any further.
Closest water source = A pond about 150 yards into the woods down a smaal trail.
Other similar incidents in the area = Almost every time I go down there again we here something. We have found large footprints in the soil down the trails. We have found large bedding grounds of a large animal by the edge of the pond.
