Ok, need help you guys. What animal screetches like an eagle or hawk?
It was running on the ground so it wasn't a bird. My hubby said it sounded like the high pitched screetching of an eagle, and it was apparently something my dog was not familiar with because it startled him. He chases deer and coyotes all the time. This startled him, but he did make chase to it.
I am wondering if it was possibly a big cat? Cougar perhaps?
What do you all think it could be? Any suggestions appreciated.
I have listened to all the animal sounds I could think of. So far the closest sound I could find was that of a cougar.

Chester says low riders (jaguarundis) chirp and sound rather birdlike....just a wild guess! Plus they are mainly diurnal cats and mostly get seen during the day.
But this was in the middle of the night. I am leaning towards bobcat or cougar. From the heavy thump of its weight, leaning more towards cougar.
We have them in the area and they are seen fairly often. Not really a big deal overall, but extremely exciting and fascinating to me as I have not seen one since I lived in Louisiana.
I remember seeing those big cats in Louisiana...LOL. I seen a panther once here too! It was just sitting on the side of the road till we went by, then it just casually walked back into the woods, I don't think it was bothered by us going by at all...LOL
