I have a question. Does a bigfoot stick around in an area where they clear cut some woods? There are other woods next to my dad's driveway. They cleared the woods about in May. Two days ago my little step-brother and I built little club houses made out of left over limbs on what looks like an old four wheeler trail and a wildlife trail. Today when we checked it out it was all destroyed. They were pretty big limbs too. It took both of us to lift one limb. We also noticed so of the pine straw was disturbed. It looked like it was walked through and what ever it was was dragging its feet. After we built it we didn't go in it. Also my dad has a dead garden in the backyard, but it is separated by an old trailer that my dad uses to put tools and stuff in. Well on day when my step brother and I were riding the four wheeler I got the feeling like I was being watched. You know that hair raising feeling you get sometimes? That is what I felt. Well if you can find the time to tell me what you think please do!

Hmmmm....

Well I'll start by saying that where your Dad lives is a perfect area for anything to thrive in.

I don't know about them sticking around in clear cut areas. I'm sure they don't actually "live" there but it is as likely as anywhere for them to pass through from time to time if it provides enough cover and has been long enough since they clear cut it.

That being said I will have to say that there is no way to know if that is what was responsible for what happened to your club house at this point. You would first have to have some kind of other sign left behind to verify that. Tracks would be good. You also need to always, always rule out human involvement any time you find something in the woods that at first seems out of place. Humans can do some strange things sometimes, especially teens.

How far into the woods was your club house?

Getting a feeling you are being watched is always something you need to pay attention to. I firmly believe that is a natural mechanism we are all born with that we lose over time that was once used as a alert system for survival, in which we no longer need in most of our lives. Some of us who spend more time in an alert observant status (police for example) seem to be more susceptible to feeling it than those who don't generally work or live in dangerous environments.

My advice is to keep your eyes and ears open and keep watching that area. Maybe put that club house back together again and see what happens. Watch your surroundings, stay alert and be careful.

I Did!

July 19 2003, 1:58 AM

I put it back together with Delaney, but when we checked it around lunch we noticed that one of the bigger limbs was knocked down or pulled down rather. and dragged. It had to have been dragged because the way it fell it would of had to fall on a limb behind it and hang on it, but it didn't it was UNDER the limb behind it! Around lunch we threw some left overs out there by the garden and just 10 mins. ago their dog was barking and running around. It ran to the back of the house where the garden is and is barking. He just now stopped but we will check the "bait" (that's what I called it) today. I really hope there actually is something back there. I really think there is too. Would you mind telling nanny about it if she hasn't already read this? I will keep you updated. Goodnight!

Hi Justin

July 20 2003, 3:42 PM

I have been reading and keeping up with this, and I have to ask are there many kids in your area? Could they have done it? The dogs barking is one thing I am not sure of,because the dogs we had in Lisbon used to leave home if one of the creatures came around that we had in the area. The feeling of being watched is one of the feelings you should pay attention to of course. I used to get that feeling when we lived in the house in Lisbon when I was outside around the back of the house or down towards the pool room my dad had there when we were coming back up towards the house sometimes. If you think it is something there the best thing in my opinion to do is watch the area for a while and see if you see tracks or any other signs. Just be careful! :)

About clear-cuts

July 19 2003, 2:22 PM

Interesting stuff there, Justin. As to what might be tearing down your clubhouse, I really couldn't say. Are there any other kids in your area that might do it? The reason I ask is because when I was your age, several of us kids in the neighborhood got quite a bit of pleasure out of finding someone else's clubhouse and tearing it down. (Yeah, I know. We were all mean as snakes. )

About the clear-cut area. It always surprises me the number of people that will look at a clear-cut and think of it as a "dead" area since all the trees are gone. But when you really get to studying a clear-cut, you'll find just the opposite to be true. When the overhead canopy is removed on a piece of land, it gives all the plants at ground level a chance to attempt to thrive. Go take a look around that clear-cut and you'll find new grass starting to grow, the bushes will be putting out new shoots, and there will still be a fair amount of cover for smaller animals.

With all the new growth coming in, it provides quite a bit of food for rabbits, turkeys, deer, squirrels, etc. Once those animals start using the clear-cut, the predators like coyotes, bears and cougars (not to mention humans and probably sasquatch) begin to frequent the area because more of their food sources are there. It's a perfect example of the food chain on a smaller scale.

I agree with your mom that the squatch probably don't stay in a clear-cut area but I have no doubt that if they're around, they'd sure stay near the cut.

Good luck, Justin. And happy squatchin'!
