Well, I've just started Deathstalker War and I have to say it's making a better impression on me now than it did all those years ago.

From a standpoint of literary merit or scientific consistency, they suck. That's 'cause they're really just cheesy fantasy novels dressed up in starships.

But they're -fun- cheesy fantasy novels.

and that describe the whole Space Opera genre. 8) then again I've enjoyed many space opera style stories.

I picked up the first Deathstalker book myself, but it'll be a while before I get around to reading it, I've got a score or so of books in my 'to be read pile' before it.
