Speculation and a Request

First, Wicked Tribe needs Data! The biggest single problem with SWL:FTV is that I've never -seen- Giant Robo - and thus have only the faintest ideas as to the Eye of Fogler's nature, capabilities, etc.

Second, I realized today that the current design for the Alliance II -badly- underutilizes the potential of their power cores. Thus, I propose two revisions. First, if we eliminate the small launch bay and most of the cargo space, we can fit in a spinal mount - I'm thinking of a Mimbari Neutron Laser, although probably not the same design as was fitted to the Sharlin.

Then, fork over the -rest- of the former cargo space to Taiidani made shield generators.

The Alliance I is an entirely different order of design - they're -not- combat monsters, but rather armed couriers. Hmmm. Perhaps external cargo pods? Lock the wings out, fit them with reinforcing sleeves - pods at the tip... *wanders off and does a sketch* Feh. Something.

Scrap the concept, leave the Alliance as a fast response ship/monitor and come up with a new design? Hmm.

Ideas?

Blessed be.

Well, cargo pods at the wingtip wouldn't work, just in terms of structural practicality - you'd have to reinforce the wing to the point that it's lift-to-weight ratio becomes useless. Hardpoints underneath the wings would work as long as they're reasonably balanced, have a counterweight on the opposite wing or whatnot.

Locking the wings out anyway is probably a good idea. Variable-geometry wings really don't add much to flight capability above the fighter scale, and they add a *lot* of weight in terms of control mechanism. The best bet would be to stick to either a long swept-wing or a short delta-wing, depending on what the glide crossrange needs to be.

>Ideas?

Hm. Can you punch up a sketch or two of the "base" Alliance as-is right now in SWL? I could probably do a render or two for various design tweaks.

Whoa. Nice. I like the style. It may not be a KFH (Kludge From Hell) but it's got one hell of a meanness factor. Kinda makes you think it't be a bad thing to get on the wrong side of the person driving, don't it?
