[a momentary shot of a spiral galaxy from well above the galactic
ecliptic, hanging there in a whirl of stars scattered like diamond
dust on black velvet.
[cut to the SDF-1, lifting out of a dock in the center of a vast
salt flat as a firestorm that stretches from horizon to horizon
sweeps towards, then across it. The ship lurches visibly under
the impact.]
Spoken (all spoken lines go over the scene immediately previous): It was the Year
of Fire.
[a beautiful woman with short platinum blonde hair and sad, sad
eyes sits at the controls of some unknown war machine as its weapons
lay waste to all before it.]
Spoken: The Year of Destruction.
[A vast fleet of Manticoran superdreadnoughts snapping out of a
wormhole and back into being, their sails shining like mirrored
disks, then warping and twisting into impeller wedges. They don't
fall into formation, but instead jump right into the savage
battle already in progress.]
Spoken: The Year we took back what was ours.
[A slender, pretty woman with blue eyes and long blonde hair
falling from two buns on either side of her head. She's sitting
at a newscaster's desk, with a logo of a sword through a stylized
numeral 5 on a shield divided at an angle between blue and grey on
the wall behind her.]
Spoken: It was a Year of Rebirth.
[A Warhammer battlemech demolishes a Hatchetman with three
furious volleys, then stalks over the corpse and deeper into
the city burning to ashes around them.]
Spoken: A Year of Great Sadness.
[A boy in his early teens huddles sobbing in a control chair
of some type. On the display in front of him, blood trickles out
of the grasp of a metallic purple fist.]
Spoken: A Year of Pain,
[A tall, lean man and a sharp-faced red haired woman embrace in
from of a throne in what looks for all the world like a reproduction
of the classic view of hell, complete with demons and rivers of
brimstone.]
Spoken: and a Year of Joy.
[A thin man wearing sunglasses and a long, black trenchcoat walks calmly
into the gleaming glass lobby of a skyscraper in some anonymous
city. Three men wearing sunglasses, business suits and earplug
microphones wait for him.]
Spoken: It was A New Age.
[Two fleets, each so vast as to seem more like countless motes of
sand scattered across the floor of the night, rush towards each
other in the interstellar dark. The larger fleet strikes first, but
the ships of the second are guarded by what look like ghostly,
three-petaled flowers of pure light, and strike back savagely]
Spoken: It was the End of History.
[A great, circular auditorium chamber. There's a symbol like a
multiarmed spiral on the banner behind the speaker's podium. One
by one, the delegates sitting around the room rise, and leave
solemnly.]
Spoken: It was the Year Everything Changed.
[a ship like a giant spider the color of greasy midnight swoops out of
a night sky and over a dark and stormy sea.]

Usagi and one other are pretty obvious, at least for this crowd. Another can be gotten if you're on the bounce - it's a pretty famous source, and the distinguishing marks are there.
If anybody gets the last two, I'll be pleasantly surprised.
Blessed be.

Well, I recognised the scene with Sinji (I've never actually seen that much of the series, but I've read enough fanfics to ID it).
I don't recall the battle involving the Manties, but I've only read up to "Flag in Exile" so far. I've only read a few of the Battletech books so I don't recognise that scene either. (though with a hatchetman, I'd guess the Warhammer's attacking a Daivon or Stiener outpost)
Of the last two, I don't recall the council session, but I'd assume the fleet action is part of the Accultanni/Jurai war. Or were you refering to the shadowvessel?
Don't let people drive you crazy when you know it's in walking distance.

>I don't recall the battle involving the Manties, but I've only read up to "Flag in Exile" so far.<
We never actually see it, IIRC, but it gets planned out in... damn, 's been too long. Honor Among Enemies, I think.
It's where they take back Trevor's Star, BTW.
>I've only read a few of the Battletech books so I don't recognise that scene either. (though with a hatchetman, I'd guess the Warhammer's attacking a Daivon or Stiener outpost)<
That was just some random battle - as I believe I've said, my knowledge of BTech picks up at the start of the Clan invasion.
>Of the last two, I don't recall the council session, <
That's something we'll have to write for ourselves - no source.
>but I'd assume the fleet action is part of the Accultanni/Jurai war.<
Yep! And anyway, I wasn't talking about the 'grand scale' scenes - my challenge had to do with the specific characters.
Blessed be.

*Year of Fire: The Maa Kraas getting out of Dodge-er, Kharak just as things get to be downright inhospitable.
*Year of Destruction: Um. First guess would be Yui and Nathan causing Mayhem. If not, pass.
*Year we took back etc.: One Weber megabattle already in progress.
*Year of Rebirth: Usagi laying down the Truth.
*Year of Great Sadness: Pass, not that Btech hip.
*Year of Pain: Shinji, natch, doing Bad Things and not being able to control hisself or his Eva.
*Year of Joy: First guess is Lionstone & paramour, but that's just a shot - seems like the kind of interior decor Her Psychoness would appreciate. ;)
*New Age: Matrix ref, beyond that... Pass.
*End of History: The Jurai Grand Fleet meets the Accultani for the first time.
*Year Everything Changed: The last meeting of the Galactic Council.
Well, how'd I do?

>*Year of Fire: The Maa Kraas getting out of Dodge-er, Kharak just as things get to be downright inhospitable.<
1 point.
>*Year of Destruction: Um. First guess would be Yui and Nathan causing Mayhem. If not, pass.<
Good guess, but no. Yui's hair is more towards the golden side than the white. And her hairstyle during 10yrs and LoC should be considered as the OAV long version.
>*Year we took back etc.: One Weber megabattle already in progress.<
2 points.
>*Year of Rebirth: Usagi laying down the Truth.<
Still 2 points, since Norgarth got it first.
>*Year of Great Sadness: Pass, not that Btech hip.<
As I noted above, it's no place in particular.
>*Year of Pain: Shinji, natch, doing Bad Things and not being able to control hisself or his Eva.<
3 points. I had the Kawaru ep in mind.
>*Year of Joy: First guess is Lionstone & paramour, but that's just a shot - seems like the kind of interior decor Her Psychoness would appreciate. ;)<
Heheheh. Right place, wrong people. 3 points.
>*New Age: Matrix ref, beyond that... Pass.<
Noncanon scene, and yes, that's Neo. 4 points.
>*End of History: The Jurai Grand Fleet meets the Accultani for the first time.<
Norgarth's again. 4 points.
>*Year Everything Changed: The last meeting of the Galactic Council.<
5 points.
Blessed be.

Well since I'm awake now, in no particular order...
>The Year of Destruction.
Kinda vague but with some wild guessing: Maria Tachibana (Sakura Wars)? Buffy and GIANT SLAYER? Fuu (Rayearth)? Sylvie (Macross II)? Esmereldas (Queen Esmereldas)? Deunan (Appleseed)?
>and a Year of Joy.
Owen Deathstalker & Hazel D'Arc
>The Year we took back what was ours.
Since it's wormhole, if this is a canon reference, this refers to either White Haven seizing Trevor's Star as planned in Honor Among Enemies; White Haven taking his fleet to Basilisk in Echoes of Honor; or White Haven taking the Grayson Home Fleet to Trevor's Star in War of Honor. From the rest of the description, the first optin is indeed the most likely choice.
>It was the Year Everything Changed.
A Shadow.
>It was a Year of Rebirth.
If you want something specific, why not set this in a volcano caldera and have a black Archer and Warhammer fighting a company of Kurita heavy mechs as a circle of other black Mechs around them are pushed towards them by vastly larger numbers of the Galedon Regulars.
(It's a canon event that took place towards the end of the 4th Succession War. Point for anyone who can tell me where it happened.)

Welp, here's a hint: Among the slaughtered are a number of blue and white Commonwealth RX-79Gs.
>Owen Deathstalker & Hazel D'Arc<
Dingdingding!
That and Trevor's Star (since I shouldn't have said anything so soon) and the Shadow and correcting me on the SW4... 4 points.
Blessed be.
