In the base style of Gryphon's starship data references, I give you this. Enjoy. ;)

Several different ways, actually. I started with the idea that his Council Logo was very nice, but a bit too... complicated? Ornate? Hard to make out?... for common use. So I messed around a little in Paint.

Variant three is nice; four is better. Five is -too- simple. I'd like to see what three and four look like rotated so that the central octagon is balanced on a point and the arms end closer to the cardinal points, but Paint won't rotate in increments of less than ninety degrees.

Blessed be.

mmm... I dunno about the four-arm spiral design quite like that, brings up... unpleasant historical connotations.

The primary reason I decided on a base four arrangement was that it was the easiest to draw. If someone with more skill and a better art program wanted to see what it looked like with, say, eight arms instead of four, or a ten-sided base figure instead of an octagon (with five arms, of course), I'd have no objections whatsoever - we're just trying things on for size, here.

And I had thought of that myself, honestly, but couldn't see a good way to get around it with my meagre skills... and there's my recurring urge to turn consensus and convention on its head, of course. After all, the swastika's negative symbolic loading was -solely- a product of its adoption by the Nazis - before that, it was a good luck charm... And, while the Spiral might -know- about the Nazis, it's too big, and it's history too long and deep, for them to have much influence.

Blessed be.

Yeah, and if we were living in the Spiral, I'd probably buy that, shrug and move on with my life.

However, we don't live in the Spiral, and I dunno about you, but I don't want to have to explain myself every time some random freak finds the site and screams "NAZI!" I do that -enough- with my -other- projects, thank you.

I strong suggest making sure the arms are pointed the other way from the nazi swastika. IIRC they reversed it when they adopted the symbol. The original's arms 'pointed' anti-clockwise.

Decagon in the center, five radial arms. I still like the curvy arms, though this time they don't wrap around to the point that it's difficult to discern 'em.

I also happened to note that the design looked awfully like an Elder Sign.... make of that what you will. ;)

If I may be forgiven the bluntness... I don't. Ew. On the other hand, I'm quite fond of the 'tiled' look of the polygonal version.

>though this time they don't wrap around to the point that it's difficult to discern 'em.

Honestly, I think that that was more of a contrast problem brought on by the shading than an integral part of the design.

Non-Lovecraft fan doesn't make anything of it. ^_^

You _could_ just point them to a random Blade of the Immortal site that has the explanation of the original meaning of the symbol, since Manji wears it on the back of his kimono ...

Then again, when have people who throw accusations around like that ever listened to reason?
