In 1990 I went camping across Canada from Sauté St Marie to Niagara Falls.
On an early morning in September 1990 as I was washing in a lake around dawn, I smelled a very musty odor; It was not the smell of a dead animal but a damp, musty order. I looked around when I heard the brush behind crack as if something or someone was watching me. I didn’t see anything. Immediately, I was reminded of the afternoon in northern California when I had seen Big Foot standing approximately 25 feet in front of me. I had been accused of dreaming the last time this happened. I was an adult and I was not asleep this morning. I didn’t see anything and the smell went away also. I completed washing and sat down to enjoy the lake in the early morning mist. As I gazed across the lake I saw three figures moving around the edge of the lake. They were huge! I blinked my eyes and they were gone. But, I knew I had seen the same type of creatures I had seen more closely that day in northern California. In 1982 I was camping with my family in the Redwood forest in northern California. I was fascinated with the huge redwood trees and wandered from the campsite to find bigger trees. It was around 5 pm on an August afternoon. I was approximately ½ miles from the campsite and came to a stream of water. The stream was about 4-5 feet across and very shallow. However, the water was so clear that I stooped over to look into the water. I heard something coming up behind me and assumed it was my brother trailing after me. I didn’t turn around, but continued to look into the very clear water. The footsteps on the leaves sounded heavy but I thought my brother was only trying to scare me. I ignored him. Then it was quiet behind me. I looked up across the stream and saw something I thought was a bear. I stood up and started to back away. Then, I thought I was looking at a gorilla, but no, it was not hairy all over like the gorillas I had seen in zoos. It was about 8 feet tall and had tuffs of hair (bear/gorilla like) and its head of very large. I looked at it and it looked back at me. I felt very calm and didn’t sense I had anything to be afraid of. We must have looked each other over for about 5 minutes. Then, so quickly it lumbered away. I went back to camp and told my parents what I thought I had seen. They just laughed at me after scolding me for leaving the campsite without telling anyone where I was going. They said I had probably fallen asleep and dreamed what I had seen. I knew I had not been asleep. All these years since that day I’ve wondered if I had actually seen what I thought I had seen or had I really fallen asleep and didn’t remember. |
