I drove down to Peru, Indiana this morning to check out a location.
It was SE of the town, off a road to Mississinewa Reservoir.
The site itself was at the end of a long, unused gravel road, with no houses and woods on both sides. The road ended in a small clearing with a gravel turnaround circle. I got out of the car and noticed that there were no normal wood sounds. No birds or insects or other normal sounds heard in woods. There was an odor which was much like road kill.
It wasn’t overly strong, but was definitely in the air. The hairs at the back of my neck were standing, though I have no idea why. I started down a small path which led further into the woods. I hadn’t gone far when I heard something moving in the brush to my right. I saw nothing and estimate it was 20-25 yards from me. Every so often I stopped, and the movement would also stop. When I moved, it also moved. I was
about 100 yards down the path when I decided to stop again. While I was standing there, trying to listen for movement, I heard 3 or 4 sharp “whoops” which came from somewhere between me and the car.
I started back in that direction, and could hear the movement in the brush, now on my left, keeping pace as it had before. When I got back to the gravel circle, I saw nothing out of the ordinary. The movement in the brush stopped as I entered the clearing. I stood by my car for several minutes, but heard nothing more, though the hairs on my neck
were still standing. I got in my car and left. |
