What are your views on legalising Prostitution in the country or pornography for that matter?? (Lets have some constructive debate on the subject)

Postitution should be legalized and controls should be in place where girls do not walk the streets, have strict health controls and work in a secure and safe house type environment.

In my opinion, prostitution should not be legalise in the country. To start with, it is not part of our culture. Secondly it is against the teachings of christianity. What about the so called "PNG is a christian country". I reckon if the above issue is legalised, we should start to regard png as a prostitute country instead of a christian country. By legalising prostitution, it will only accelerate the problems that a lot of people experiencing now. Such problems as, increase in STD disease, and there will be more cases of HIV/AIDS. Eventhough cleanliness and safety measures will be of great importance if it is legalise, these will not counteract the fact that the impact to the society as whole will be immense. There will be broken marriages, rate of divorce will increase and a lot more innocent children will be left without parents. They will be disadvantage without a role model in their live. This could be worse for the future of the children. There is a whole lot more arguments to this issue but I'm happy I contributed a bit. Post some soon.

It will stop the need to rape, it will let women who are ok with this work have a chance to earn and will keep sisters, wifes, mothers safer.

Just because png is a christian country doesn't mean that people don't visit postitutes, the fact of the matter is it is happening right now and the numbers of postitutes are increasing, and the women and men are NOT using condoms - the family connection is already breaking down, right now married men are passing AIDS on to their wivies and babies are born with AIDS or AIDS is passed on by the mother thru breast milk, because of the mens visit.

At least with strong health controls in place and compulsary use of condoms there will be hope of not passing on AIDS, limit of the number of ladies working and pass a law get the women off the streets.

but don't you think legalising prostitution will only make things worst than it is already is. am aware of the the problems but you can not only look at one side of the coin. what's the go with people who can not afford a decent root, the next option on hand is rape. if you think this will solve the ongoing problems, i suggest we have to look at both sides of the coin and weigh out the good from the bad. who knows i could be wrong but we have got to take a step back assess all posibilities or aspects of the matter. it does not mean that if it works for other countries it should work perfectly with png. we've got a very different and complex culture.

Legalising it in PNG will only make current situations worse! Instaed of legalising it, why not initiate strategies that will help these 'concerned population' to improve their life style.

It may not happen over night, but we have to start somewhere, and soon. Like everything else in life, time and effort is required. If our governemnt is able to provide the effort (money), and our people give it time to bloom, we are sure to see some fruits in the near future. Patience is must in these type of situations.

The population also must not rely on the Gov't for everything. We were all born with God given gifts which we are to use to provide for ourselves. So make use of these and make a difference in your own lives.

times are definately hard these days, but if God put us hia on this planet to live, I'm sure he knows that we as humans can look after ourselves if we follow his instructions and obey his laws. Whatever strife and heartache happening now is only because we as humans initiated them and disobeying him.

I guess simplicity is the key to having a norm life.
