Our 2 Year Old son Brendan is having the OP in Sept.

Hi,
We have been told that the jaw extension is important to improve breathing & Eating. Brendan has a Trachy since birth and the op may remove his reliance on the Trachy. We have been told the operation is done quite early now that the equipment is so small. Brendan will probably need another Op when he is older as they will only be able to use the smaller size device inside his mouth.
Brendan has been making noises using a passy muir valve for the last 2 months and we hope the Op will improve the quality of his speach and if we are lucky he may not need the Trachy any more.
As much as possible we are not rushing in to have ops on Brendan but this one appears to be a very important Op for TCS children. Others such as the Cheek bones can wait as his eyes are shutting Ok.
Cheers,
Graham
