Quite possibly done at the same time. Rolex has been known to have dials refinished when they do not have service replacements.
Being that your watch was fairly uncommon it is feasible that in 1961 there were no service dials available or it simply could have been done at a later juncture.
The hands though more popular in the 1950's were definitely around in the 1930's even as was that dial configuration.
