Hi all. I was hoping someone could help me with a question on the venerable 1520 movement. I understand that for a period of time, US sold 1520 movements came with a reduced jewel count of 17 for taxation reasons. Can anyone tell me roughly when this practice ended? If I was looking at a 1978 5513, assuming the movt was original and it was sold in the US, would it have had the full jewel count or the reduced count?
Second, related question that I have often wonderdedmis whether or not there is any noticeable difference between thenreduced movements andnfull 26 jewel movements? Given that the jewels are designed to reduce friction and wear, do the rotor assemblies (which is where I THINK rolex took the jewels out for the US movements) wear faster?
