Just back form RSC... went in to replace an incorrect ( fluted) bezel. To get the smooth bezel , of course, one has to spend a small fortune, as RSC do not sell parts. So the cost of a complete overhaul is an overhead cost to a "difficult to get" bezel.
This is a watch I bought from the Spring Parma Show. A little story I must tell; I got the watch from a well established Italian dealer. After pointing out that the watch had the incorrect bezel, he gave me a 500 Euro discount. Quick agreement, and the credit card was out.(I was prepared to pay the charges). No, no... No credit card...
This was my first visit to Parma, and I had no clue how business was done there. Cash was the way; but I was not prepared. I did not want to carry huge amounts of cash, lest I had to make lengthy explanations to the Customs why I was carrying so much money. Also, security, you understand...
So it was clear that the alternative was a bank wire. The dealer, a very nice old gentleman who I have never met before, gave me a piece of paper with his bank account particulars scribbled on it. I put the information in my wallet, and told him (it was difficult, as he spoke little English, and I spoke litte Italian, except Ciao!)I would wire the money.
As I walked away, he called after me, and handed me a pouch with the watch in it.Can you believe that! He gave me a watch worth quite a few thousands of Euros, without receiving payment first! And this, purely on the back of the fact that my friend who was with me, was introduced to him(the dealer), the day before, by a well known collector and author of many watch books! The old Trust System still lives! That's why I love Italy, my favourite country in Europe. Only in Italy...
The discrete Qaboos signature, in an attractive apple green.
The correct smooth bezel, compliments of Rolex. These guys have all the DD parts that you want; only thing is that you will get the parts only through a service. More $$$. Sigh...
The case is in pretty good nick; I would not warrant that the case has not been abused by a polishing wheel, but the crucial space between the lugs definitely have not been touched. The engravings are strong and crisp.
The inner CB has the full case number engraved on it; another feature that makes the watch interesting.
And here, a family shot, 3 generations of smooth bezels, 6612 RG, 1802 WG, and 18206 PT.
Best...MC
