in 1980, I was a young married engineer with two kids and salary enough to support a modest living. Looking back, I spent enough money on Bulova, Seiko, Cassio and Timex throw-aways to have purchased a nice Rolex 1680 Sub that would be a classic today. I think today, given that you will most likely live an active lifestyle, I would look forward and buy a sport Rolex that is newer, in your price range that will be a classic in 25 years. I like the 16610's or 14060M for a daily wear tool watch to start out on. Some of the latter 5513's would be an option as well but might require some upkeep. Good luck with your selection !!
