After two wonderful weeks visiting my wife's family in the gorgeously verdant countryside of Sweden, we were able to squeeze in a couple of days in dear old Stockhlom...
...where I had the great pleasure to meet one of THE true Gentlemen Collectors in this hobby, our good friend Johan.
Not only was Johan the personification of the gracious host, leading us on a fabulous tour of some of the insider's best parts of a great city and treating us to a wonderful lunch in peaceful Djurgården, but he also brought along his truly world class Vintage Sports Rolex collection...
This stunning array includes three of the best gilt Tool Watches you will ever see...
...accompanied by a bevy of beautiful matte Divers...
...all crowned by his mind-blowingly magnificent MilSub...
Now, my Fat Lady may make an excellent traveling watch but it is not exactly a match for J's fantastically mellowed early 60s GMT...
LOL.
Yes, it was simply a tremendous afternoon meeting one of the greats of this hobby and sharing an appreciation of the good things in life--a great Cuban cigar, some magnificent old Rolex, excellent conversation...
...all in one of the world's great cities. I miss the beauty of Stockholm already...
...can't wait to go back!
Tack så mycket, Johan!

Johan is one of my dearest friends. He is simply a warm hearted and fantastic person with a great appreciation for the good things in life. I´m so glad you enjoyed the priviledge of meeting him. And yes, his collection is stunning! Johan sometimes let´s me wear the MilSub when I come for dinner LOL.
Meeting you and M was like catching up with old friends, not like meeting someone for the first time. I had a great, alas too short, time! I'm glad you liked lunch and Djurgården even though I probably could have done a better job on that turbot myself. LOL. Ah well, next time. Stockholm is certainly a beautiful lady in the sunshine and you managed to arrive in the middle of a heatwave. And again, how you can squeeze scans of that quality out of that little camera is beyond me. Some of those watches are actually pretty decent. LOL.
Many thanks and hope to see you and M again soon...........

awesome shots... who makes the NATO on the mil-sub
July 4 2009, 4:03 PM
Those are some truly incredible shots (both the scenery and the watches).
Is the NATO on the milsub grey or black? Any idea who makes that one as I would love to buy such a strap for my Sub. All of the ones I have found are cheap and thin and the greys always seem a bit too light.
...we arrived in Stockholm late on the 1st, had the day on the 2nd and flew out on the 3rd in the AM so not much time. Will probably be back next year and for more days than that with any luck, so I will hopefully be able to meet several more of the great Swedish Rolex men!
All the best to you,
Tom
