some guys will remember that thread may 18th this year:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/207593/message/1305739060/5512+PCG+from+1961+no+gap+dial-

i bought 5512 with serial 693620 from private collector from japan with help of one of my good friends in singapore. we was wondering about no gap between dial and rehaut and little strange serialnumber engraving.
now after some opinions from other guys and my recherche it is excellent fake case. here are some results and comparison after purchase of this watch:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/207673/message/1317143655/FS-+Rolex+5512+gilt+pcg+chapter+ring+2-liner+----%26gt%3BTROPICAL+dial+%21%21%21

i bought this watch because serialnumber just 22 numbers less then fake case.
here are my results:

here are measurements of both cases. that explanes no gap between dial and rehaut in fake case:

that was dial without gap in fake case:

now in real case with gap:

watch out always and compare with other watches, fake cases are getting better too...
thanks for attention

Wow, Ralle! That was a quick and detailed research....

thx for sharing the story and the details. Nobody would have regarded this case as a fake if he just hold it in his hands.

Great info, mate!

Ineteresting, Ralle. But what if they are just different series with variation? Do you...

October 19 2011, 8:52 AM

...have other proof aside from the rehaute diameter? Maybe a closer scan of the serial number (but even then it might have been re-engraved)?
Not trying to be contrarian but would just like to see more evidence because if true, this would be damn scary.
Best regards,
Tom

Did you find any issues with the SS bezel ring?

Nice work Ralf!...

Great to get this out in the open and scary how good the fakes are becoming. What do you make of the numbers?

Cheers,

Nick.

To be honest... we could see it...

October 19 2011, 1:05 PM

Hi Ralle.. when i saw the watch.. together with 3-4 other people.. it felt wrong right away.
Maybe less on the case in general...

But the way the dial was sitting in the case... the serial number and engravings on that side...

The distance to the minutetrack was the most flashy part of it.

But it really get's scarry!

I am not convinced it is 100% "fake" per se. Maybe a later case...

October 19 2011, 2:15 PM

...altered to look like an earlier 5512.
The 2nd (3rd?) gen pointed crown guards cases do have a smaller inner "rehaut" diameter than the earlier one, as per our good friend Marcello.
I think I need more proof before believing that the case was manufactured out of whole cloth rather than re-engraved and then the watch put together. Big difference there, IMO.
Best,
T.
