I was talking with buddy TUSCANYROSE this morning. I thought he has ALL the answers!! We are both stumped on this.

[linked image]

As we know,

the first generation 1625 thunderbird's were SS/wg, SS, YG, and all YG. The second generation we know is ss/yg, but the reference on this model indicates 0 which is stainless. I haven't tested the bezel, but does anyone know if the bezel is W/gold or SS? If it is a precious metal then why the 0 designation after 1625?

Your thoughts are appreciated!!

WG for sure

as I have one as well (the bezel, not the watch).
No idea why they did not call it a 16254, I guess it was made in too small a series to earn its own number...
best,
Robbe

and you are right, it is stainless steel! weight is less also

November 10 2011, 2:41 AM

weight is less compared to a yellow gold one, 4.2 gr vs 5.5 gr.
So that's why it is a 16520, the "0" for stainless.
I always thought I had gold in my hands sad.gif

The outer bezel is steel, but the inner insert might be WG after all

November 10 2011, 12:43 PM

Rolex looks at the bezel itself to define the last number of the model, just look at the Yachtmaster as a good example. The insert is platinum, but the bezel itself is not if I am not mistaken.
I agree totally that it looks like WG(grey/yellow color), that is why I always assumed that the complete bezel was WG. But now we know better...
