I know it's not everyone's grail....I kind of rescued this one.

It was a converted 1600 to 1601 with gold fluted and crown.

I had this dial and handset.

I serviced the movement and made a few tweaks to the micro stella screws...

On my wrist it is danged near perfect...I love not having to set my watch for days on end...and knowing it is within a couple of seconds.

I like a crisp case...especially on non sports watches. I had the case finished and reinstalled the movement a couple of days ago.

Everytime you make any change...like uncasing and recasing...you often get slightly different timing results...this one...stayed put happy.gif

I had an NOS Rolex strap and buckle that I bought at their hefty price tag a few years back for another watch that they serviced that I subsequently sold.

A bit off the beaten path being a 1600...with a slightly uncommon dial.

Fun at modest expense.

love that smooth bezel and your case and lugs are indeed lookin real crisp and thick! we love to see those rescue/resto projects and datejusts have always been one of our favorites...almost always trumping our sports models when it's time to pick what to wear for the day!

here's a few rescued babies that will always be part of our collection...

Who cares about grails? The word is massively over abused anyway >

This watch was made by one of the world's best and most renowned watchmaking companies from a time when manufacturers cared about the quality and consumers demanded it.

This watch has a beautiful case, dial, crown, hands and strap. They go so well together who wouldn't want to wear this watch all and every day and keep a smile on their face.

It absolutely oozes the love care and affection that has been bestowed upon it and you have the extra satisfaction of being able to do your own calibration work - which is something I really envy a lot.

So much better than the the fast buck, short life, cheap consumer crap that makers make and buyers buy in these buy now pay later screwed up modern times.

I really like it, thanks for sharing,

Steve

of course everyone likes rare as hen's teeth exotic finds or "grails", as we are all collectors and enthusiasts. however, the enjoyment of our hobby should focus on personal satisfaction with whatever happens to make you smile. so much of that is lost when one needs to follow whatever happens to be trendy or hot value-wise. a rolex is a rolex, and any model rolex was a high end top quality time piece when it was made and sold, and would have given the owner back then, as well as the current owner who bestows the care to bring it back to health much satisfaction. we have some vintage rarities as well as basic entry level oysters in our collection and we would never dream of selling any of 'em, as we love and appreciate them as precious possessions.

Such simplicity those 1600 ....here's 2 of mine....

April 22 2012, 7:32 AM

that I've acquired through my 1600 search. The one with the black dial has a case of 1.5m powered by a 1560 (isn't it too late for a 1560?) while the other one with the gold dial and hands (cannibalized from a TT 1601) has a 2.2m case powered by a hacking 1570. I'll soon be fitting a silver dial in place of this gold dial.

don't be so hasty replacing that dial&hands!

rolex used to produce quite a few stainless datejusts and precisions with gold dial and hand sets back in the day. in my opinion that combo makes for a very interesting look!

I agree, the gold is more unique.

If you want silver then by all means but there is nothing wrong with it just like it is.

And I think the 1560 is okay. I had a 67 1501 Date that had a 1560.

I'm really enjoying it and even more now that the case is like new. I was 14 when this pup was produced...I wish it were as easy to put me back in top condition after 41 years happy.gif
