I have a vintage rolex that my grandfather purchased in 1960 or 1961 that I want to get working again. It is also missing the bezzel (sp?) on the watch face. I tried Tourneau watch dealers and they were no help, said there was nothing they could do. Any suggestions??
...they usually know a local watchsmith who's conversant in vintage Rolex. Most likely, the watch simply needs an overhaul, which any competent watchsmith can handle. If it requires parts, that can make things a bit sticky, but not an insurmountable problem.
A good photo of the watch along with the model number (the model number's engraved on the side of the case below one of the end links where the bracelet attaches to the case) would make identifying the correct bezel a fairly simple task. However, locating a replacement bezel may take a bit of work and, depending on the rarity of your watch, money.
Good luck.
