DRSD thin case origins

Hi lads, does anyone have any opinions on what case Rolex used for the early thin case 1665's? Was it the 5513, 5512 or the 1680 case?
Or was it an entirely new case made just for this short production run?

The CG's on the thin case DRSD's seem quite pointed and "pinched"...

Thanks
Peter

I am under the impression that it's 5514 that lent the case design.

I had a 5513 thin Case and they are really beautiful

Too bad I sold it and I been trying to find another one with no luck

See below scans

The first one is the watch and see how play it is, loved it

on the second picture is a clear that the one on top is the regular 5513 and the one under is the thin case again see how slim and flat the case is, they are both from year 67 and I hope I can find another one soon.

I hope taht helps

Can you measure a difference??

August 8 2012, 9:14 AM

I really can not see any difference.
Has one maybe been polished a bit more or is there a measurable difference?

Does Rolex mention anything about changes in case thickness or dimentions?

Thank you for your help as this has always puzzled me.
David

Thanks for comparison pic..........

From that angle it looks a lot like a 5513 case.
The pinched CG's is a mystery though....

Cheers
Pete

"The CG's on the thin case DRSD's seem quite pointed and "pinched"... " yep, I keep seeing this, mate.
Been wondering the same thing for a while now, as we have discussed. Even seemingly NOS or close to NOS DRSDs often seem to have the pointy/pinched CGs, (and at the same time, pronounced bevels/chamfers on the case sides and lugs?) from what I've seen.

I have seen some very early red subs with CG's that were similar....

Good to see this ad, thanks for posting it. It's what I suspected for a while.
