Dial Refinishers?

All--

While I know refinishing a dial is sacrilegious, I have a vintage sub that's the victim of a previous, and very poor, redialing which I'd like to "correct" as best possible. Do folks' have a recommendation for a redialer or previous experience doing it?

Many thanks,
Paul

What kind of dial?

Mostly in the US they are all bad...some are slightly better depending on the dial.

What type of dial are you working with?

Oh....I would ask around the European theatre...maybe someone

There can recommend something decent. In the States...you're kind of out of luck.

I don't think that is their best suit...gloss black...

I've not had the best luck.

However they do a vintage thing that kind of works....it's got a little bit of a matte sheen to it...

Here is one they did on a 6610...

If you don't mind the slightly aged matte to the gloss black this is not bad for a refin. You're not going to fool an expert but it costs about 170.00 or so with the hands.

Ask them to not "pink" the lume quite as much. They did one for me recently that was some better.

David Bill in the UK is probably the best but I've no idea about a vintage finish

I seem to Remember Ralle suggesting a German chap for vintage, perhaps he could comment?
Colin.

Michael Young did a great review with pics on vintage dial restoration via Rolexforums

Great post by Michael Young. He did my 9315 bracelet and I could not have been happier.
Good Luck to you.

David

Try contacting Tal Shlomo in Israel

February 6 2013, 6:25 PM

Tal Ben-Shlomo (info@eldarinn.com) might be able to help.
He was very patient in answering all my questions and explained the complex process of restoring vintage dials. While not a Rolex dial, He did a great job of restoring a vintage 1954 IWC dial for me.
His site dialrefinish.net has detailed information on dial refinishing that can get you started.
Email him a high res pic of your dial and he should be able to tell you what he can do.
Prompt and good communications.

Do not expect any dial refinisher to be able to give you a 100% accurate, mint, NOS looking refinished dial.
Only VRM can give you that happy.gif
