Authenticity of a 6542 and 1675 dial ?

Hi folks.

Apologies in advance if a link to FleaBay is unacceptable. Option B would see me lose a morning fumbling around Imgur copying pics.

Two rare dials available in recent days from an Australian seller ... although his feedback shows he ships from Hong Kong. There's a 6542 (now sold) and a 1675 chapter ring (still available).

I think I like the 1675 dial and I have a use for it, but I'm not convinced about the 6542 dial. We are starting to see fakee 1675 chapter ring dials, heavily aged and alarmingly close to original specs, so I'm being extra careful.

A side note ... feedback for the seller is uninspiring. A long history with 4000+ buyers but feedback includes ... faulty phones ... used items repackaged as new - the pre-loaded pornography was the giveaway there wink.gif... and a recent come-back from a buyer just in recent weeks who dropped $18500 on a 6542 insert that turned out to be a fakee.

I'd welcome thoughts from the VRF crew. Any unequivocal tells that cast doubt on these dials ?

Thanks in advance, Paul

Paul, in my opinion, the 1675 dial is entirely fake/re-done and artificially aged >>

As are all the dials on his recently sold gilt Explorers. See thread below:

Personally, I would not go near him.

Best,
Ian

I was unaware that the seller had popped up recently with dodgy Explorer dials.

The VRF watchdog function is working well. Cool !

Another Listing by the Australian Vendor Questionable Items?

December 11 2017, 8:07 AM

I usually don't post on the boards, however, the vendor referenced in this thread piqued my interest earlier this month with their set of vintage Rolex Explorers that eerily all had the same tropical, rich aged patina to their dials.

The vendor now has a "AUTHENTIC RARE ROLEX SUBMARINER JAMES BOND REF 5508 GILT DIAL `58 ,RL_201117-1" with the exact same look as the explorers. The explorers have been commented on an earlier, separate thread, with some of the board "experts" calling out their perceived discrepancies in the dials.

This Seller has comments from one buyer that the Seller sold a "Fake 6542 Bezel,Does not match the photos or description Beware! Sells Fakes!"

I wish there was an easy to validate the authenticity of these high ticket items beyond "let the buyer beware"!
