What has happened to this GMT-bezel?

Anybody any idea what has happened to this gold 1675 gmt bezel?
It has small craters to the surface, like a sort of corrosion. But it is gold...weight exactly the same as another bezel I have (forgot, but something like 3.4 grammes or so), so not likely to be a steel bezel with a very, very thick layer of gold on it.

Could it be a fake bezel in real gold with craters from the melting and forming process?
Anybody seen this before?

Does it have four indents? If so then it is an old trick to have the insert expand to make more contact with the glass retaining ring
