Shall we be describing and detailing precisely what is wrong
on nos parts found for sale on VRM?
With the infos given, fakers have now perfect tools to come back with 'perfect' fakes.
Better inform Eric, Roger or any other Mods if you find something wrong
on nos nparts sold on the market place.
Just my humble opinion.

Is there a preferred mail address, like admin@vintagerolexforum.com? I've written a few days ago in regard to a bad item to eric@vintagrolexforum.com, but got no answer.

Gilt hands are better and better but

March 10 2018, 7:01 AM

with the infos provided they will be corrected and very difficult
to spot for the average collector. Its a pity as they are on the market
since a year with the problem underlined in a member's post. Were so easy
to spot....sad sad.gif
The same producers already modified the canon hole that had rounded edges
on these hands. Next batch will be a pain sad.gif

Question: What happens if the fakes become better

March 11 2018, 10:35 PM

quality than the original? A long deceased friend of mine once won best in show at Pebble Beach. His Bugatti was perfectly restored and he was also a well respected judge in Concours. Not in the case of his show winning Bugatti, but in certain cases he talked about cars that were known to use aftermarket replica parts that exceeded the quality of the original parts...and this was referred to as "improving the breed." Will and/or should that ever become the case in vintage Rolexes?

I think these things go in cycles.........

As with classic cars, we have seen the emphasis and market desirability change over the decades...from fully restored cars , to totally original cars, to cars with with racing history or eligible to enter certain races eg Mille Miglia and as the empthasis changes so does the acceptance of non standard parts eg in restorations. Demand does change over time.

As there are a finite number of truly original pieces and dwindling stocks of original replacement parts, hands and dials.IMHO something has to give at some point.
