Well you know Joseph Schumpeter predicted the big boxes many years ago. He called it "creative destruction".
There may not be much anybody can do about it.
It really burns my butt when so-called "city fathers" (they ought to call them city mothers) will give these monsterous companies tax abatements (which really are subsidies) and put the locals at a competitive disadvantage.
You know, if the big boxes beat you on the same playing field, that's one thing, but when people you have known all your life vote to subsidize these behemoths, well, that's another deal altogether.
