My husband has been asked by a client for a six months project in US.For 6 months he has to apply L1 visa. But as the work is urgent he is going to US first on a B1 visa...I have a few doubts

1.Should he come to India again to change the B1 visa to L1 visa ie L1 stamping or can it be done if he stays in US itself....

2.How long it takes for L1 processing...after that how long my dependant visa processing will take?

It is possible for your husband to change status once in the U.S. as long as he has not violated the terms of his B-1 status.
Permitted activities under a B-1 visa, however, are rather limited, so it is extremely important that before leaving for the U.S. he clarifies that his activities are indeed permissible.
As for processing times, it depends upon where his employer is located and which INS Service Center will have jurisdiction over the case, but it should not be more than several months.
