Hello,

I'm an international student from the Netherlands, studying at the University of Southern Maine on an F-1 visa. My girlfriend (native American) and I are considering marriage, but we don't know what steps we need to undertake in order to begin the process as far as the whole immigration aspect goes. Does anyone have any advice on where to begin, or better yet, exactly what we need to do to get this ball rolling?

Thank you very much for any information.

As the spouse of a US citizen, your application for permanent residency will be processed through your local BCIS office. The application will actually consist of two parts, your wife's visa petition and your application for permanent residency. Both of them will be submitted simultaneously with your local BCIS office.

If you'd like my office to assist you with you the process, please contact me to arrange for a consultation.
