Hey, i've been thinking about doing this in the next few years, i've just finished college and have looked into it. its pretty overwelming the amount of Visas' you can apply for, so i'm left pretty clueless. i wanted to do this for about 12 months but the working visas' i've seen have only been for 6 months, do i go with that then apply for another 6 months when i'm there?

Cheers.

J-1 Visa

In order to work in the US you need to have a job offer from a US employer that is willing to sponsor you for a work visa.

Apart from work visas there is also the J-1 trainee visa for students, recent graduates, and other university-age applicants. A J-1 visa will allow you to spend up to 18 months in the US.

To get a J-1 visa, you do not have to have a job offer, but you do have to submit your application through an accredited J-1 program sponsor, such as Council Exchanges (CIEE) (http://www.councilexchanges.org.uk/) or the Association for International Practical Training (AIPT) (http://www.aipt.org).

There are many other J-1 program sponsors – a quick search on the Internet should lead you to their sites and will allow you to compare their fees and services.

Best of luck!
