I fell out of F-1 status almost two years ago and have been in the country since.
My boyfriend, who is a US citizen, and I are considering marriage.
To my knowledge, I have never been in removal proceedings or deported in absentia. However, considering that one is notified of this by mail and I have moved several times in the past few years, it is possible I could have missed such a notification.
Is there any way to find out whether I have ever been sent a Notice To Appear and/or been deported in absentia? I do not have an A# but do have a SSN#.
I know that adjustment of status may not be possible after marriage if it turns out that I am now or was at some point in removal proceedings. I'd like to avoid that.
If there is no way to find out, do I just file the I-130 and I-485 after marriage and hope that no nasty surprises turn up?
Thank you very much.
