Hi,
I am currently on H1B and would like to start the green card process. I am planning to visiting my home country in a couple of months. Is it ok to start the green card process now or wait until I get back from my home country? Will my green card application play any role in granting an H1B visa when I visit my home country?

My fiancee also holds a H1B visa. Can one of us start the green card process and add the other person as dependent? (We plan to get married in a couple of months).

H-1B Visa & Green Card Application

You can start the green card process and still renew your H-1B visa without any problem. An H-1B visa is a dual intent nonimmigrant (temporary) visa, meaning that you can continue to work with an H-1B visa even if you plan to immigrate permanently to the US. Most other nonimmigrant (temporary) visas require that you intend to leave the US at the end of your stay.

In terms of getting married, you should simply be married by the time you file the I-485 (adjustment application).

Good luck!
