dear attorney!

first of all i would like to say thank you because of your amazing job with this forum because immigration are very complexe and very difficut to understand, thank you.

I'm a french citizen and i overstayed with my son in the united state because i'didn't want to be a separate familly so i took the risk and here i'am, it's been 1 year now. my fiance just got his gren card and he's applying for his citizenship, (he's qualify to apply ).
So my question is.... is my situation going to change if i marry him?
( he's not americain yet).
should i wait until he's got he's citizenship?
and if i have to wait how long he's gone take for him to have it?

once again thank you for your time.

Marriage & Applying for a Green Card

Thank you for your kind words about my website & forum.

In your case, as you’ve overstayed your stay and presuming that you plan to stay in the US, it really doesn’t make much of a difference if you marry your fiancé now or after he becomes a citizen. You will not, however, be able to apply for a green card (or even get a work permit) until he becomes a citizen.

The waiting period for him to have his citizenship interview depends on where he lives and can range from 6 months to 15 months.
