I am a Canadian citizen and I am married. My parents have received green card to the US about 2 years ago. Will they have to wait for the next 3 years (become US citizens) before they can sponsor me for a green card? Or is there anything else they can do?

Only US citizens can sponsor their married children for a green card, so you’ll have to wait to begin the green card application process. Even once they become US citizens, you’ll still have a 7 to 8-year wait ahead of you.

In the meantime, as a Canadian citizen, the TN visa may be a very interesting option for you if work in one of the 60+ professions covered by that visa category. If you’d like to further discuss your eligibility for a TN visa or other options, feel free to contact my office to arrange for a consultation.
