Hi, my name is Larry, and I am currently 18-years-old, and will be 19 in August. I was wondering if there was a way I could move to the US and obtain permanent residence there.

The reason I am moving is because my boyfriend lives in California and he is unable to come to Canada for personal reasons. I realize that the US does not recognize same-sex marriage, but is there a way I can move there in May of 2008 legally without any hassles?

Cheers.

For more information on the different visa options for the US, visit the Visa Information page of our website:

As you pointed out, in your particular case your relationship cannot be the basis of a visa application, so you’ll need to consider either a work or student visa. As a Canadian citizen, a TN visa could be very interesting for you, but most jobs covered by the TN visa require a bachelor’s degree or, in several circumstances, work experience.

If you’d like me to further review your case, you can call my office at (617) 889 0215 to schedule a consultation. You can also reach me by e-mail at E.Weiner@immigration-aux-usa.com
