Response to Boston Area High FSH friendly recommendations needed
I worked with Dr Obasiolu for a year... 2 IUIs and 3 IVFs. Although a nice guy... I was not impressed. When I first got dx of high FSH of 11.8 at 37 y/o I was pretty clueless about the whole thing... I had no idea about over-suppression or E2 levels etc... I put full trust in my RE. However by IVF # 3 I knew if I wasn't pregnant I needed to move on and find a better RE. Dr Obasiolu was kind and open and positive but after all the knowledge and insight I learned from this board as well as my own research I honestly felt I was teaching him! For example, IVF #1 they had me on BCP for 5 weeks before starting stim, I didn't realize then but I was completely over suppress, I had 8 eggs retrieved but an E2 of only 300!! IVF # 2 we tried a MDL, it was going to be straight gonal f and MDL, I asked him "are we not going to do menapur or repronex with the gonal f?" (in my research most MDL had one of this 2 in addition to the gonal f)... his response was "ok, yeah we can put some of that in there too".... I thought that was strange. And finally #3 he wanted to do MDL again because my response was pretty good but I asked we try EPP. He said he didn't usually do EPP but would give it a try. Well I started the estrogen patch and then had my day2 bld work and my E2 was 119 and he was all crazed that it was over 50 and wanted me to do 3 extra shots on ganirelix to bring it down. I actually had to explain to HIM that I am on an estrogen patch.... my E2 SHOULD be high! He back tracked and was like "that's right... I usually like it lower but you are on a patch so we should expect it higher". I knew then that this was NOT the right RE. Also HVMA uses RSC who do not have the best SART percentages, and after 3 IVFs I honestly think there lab is not that great. I had a total of 22 eggs fertilize in my 3 IVFs and only 5 of those ever made it to ET. I should add that IVF#3 I did end up w/ BFP but m/c at 7 weeks.
I am now with Dr Ashby at BWH and couldn't be more pleased!! She is young and bright and sooo positive! I met with her in Oct shortly after my m/c and she was just a breath of fresh air! She looked at my previous cycles and right away pointed out some mistakes Obasiolu made. We were planning to cycle in Jan but ended up w/ a natural BFP in Dec. She called me when she found out and was so honestly excited. Sadly I m/c again at 7 weeks. We went to her for a f/u and she looked like she was ready to cry and said how sorry she was. We are planning to cycle with her next month, doing another EPP cycle. When we met with her to go over the protocol she said to me "you not bringing home your baby is NOT an option"... I just love her!
In my opinion stay away from HVMA. There are better REs out there. Good luck!!!
