My DH was worried about performance issues so we had two frozen samples, just in case. I honestly think that was enough to put his mind at rest and so he never had an issue.... maybe because there was less pressure?
You can also ask about adding samples to each other for IUI, so there is a higher concentration and, for IVF, well, you don't need nearly as many! 
I'd think about dropping a bug in the nurses ear at your RE that they might be getting an "odd" letter... tell them he is a bit eccentric... just be careful in case they know each other!
