If only a celebrity were diagnosed with high FSH...

Think about it ladies, if JLo, Katie Holmes, Angelina Jolie, or Oprah were diagnosed with high FSH, the following would be in place:

1) The National Association for High FSH
2) A National "High FSH Awareness Day"
3) Wristbands
4) Revlon would be sponsoring a "race for the ovaries" run and Kelly Ripa would be running in it each year in NYC
5) There would be a bill in front of congress that mandates all PCP's and OBGYN's give routine FSH tests to all women starting at age 18

Hey - JLo or Angie

July 23 2008, 8:10 PM

Someone was seated next to one of those gals at a clinic in LA. I swear - a couple of years ago. Anyone remember? Geez...I have been infertile for too long...

I remember that....

July 23 2008, 8:44 PM

although I thought it was one of the East Coast clinics.....I could be mistaken...that was when I was new to the board and didn't know about all the different clinics and where they are!! I've seen one celeb (not Angie or JLo) at my clinic.........don't know what her diagnosis was of course......it is a shame that so many seek help on the down low. I know she had her baby.........and alas....I'm still at the clinic.

xoxo, Tracy

I remember that!

July 24 2008, 7:12 AM

I remember that! It was one of the girls using the Cornell clinic, she was sitting next to J Lo. Then that big People magazine spread came out - "we conceived naturally, no IVF, etc etc." What, like having IVF is like having a disease? Please. I will happily tell anyone who asks me that I underwent IVF treatment. Who knows when my story might help someone else!

Jennifer Lopez is a fucking liar!

July 24 2008, 7:07 AM

ITA.

I am sooooo sick of all celebrities who clearly do IVF and pretend they didn't. Why yes I'm looking at you, Jennifer Lopez, Ms. "Twins Run In My Family" who has been spotted in half the clinics in America and just happened to give birth to twins in her late thirties.

I mean we've seen the woman just about naked. We've seen her break up a marriage to a guy who had kids with another woman. But oh no no. IVF is worse than sluttery. IVF is worse than showing the whole world your breasts. IVF is something one should never ever talk about because god forbid anyone would think that you were one of those people.

Bleh. The whole thing makes me want to throw up. I swear to god real bravery isn't showing the world your backside. Real bravery is telling your friends and the whole damned world yes it was IVF and no I am not ashamed of anything but the notion that I should pretend it wasn't.

I think Marcia Cross is the only celeb to admit to DE??

July 24 2008, 7:13 AM

I read an article in Redbook where Marcia Cross talked about using DE for her twin girls; she never mentions whether or not she had high FSH, but she does say that she knew that with her advanced maternal age that it would be difficult so she just went right to DE.

Other than that, she's the only one I can think of. Well, Courtney Cox has talked about all the m/c's she's had, right?

where did she admit DE?

July 24 2008, 7:53 AM

"In a People cover story published after her twin girls were born, Cross was described as having “beat the odds” of conceiving via I.V.F. at age 44 using her own eggs. " http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/15/magazine/15egg-t.html?pagewanted=7&_r=1

Wasn't Mark always after J Lo? I didn't think she broke them up; Mark had married Dayanara on the rebound anyway (I thought).

J. Lo is CATHOLIC

July 24 2008, 11:33 AM

This is why under no circumstances will she admit it publicly. Though local parish priests may be more open, the Vatican considers IVF a mortal sin.

I'm not a Catholic but doesn't the Vatican consider remarriage a no-no? Or breaking up a marriage in the first place something pretty awful? Because if I were Ms. Lopez I would be far more ashamed of being a whore and a slut then using a medical procedure.

But I'm funny like that.

Religion - in general - makes no sense to me

July 24 2008, 2:10 PM

I believe in God and all, but have no room in my life for man made religions. I don't get their logic. The Vatican, for whatever reason, is louder about how IVF is evil because it is "murder" than adultery. (This is their perspective - no rational, scientific minded person should even consider it a valid position IMNSHO.)

who knows? i betcha some have been diagnosed but don't want to share that level of intimate information because it's still a little taboo to reveal to the world that they are not perfect. Go figure, right?

Oh, I'm sure she did. I just wish more of the would come out and talk about it, ya know?
She's a pretty private person, it would have to be a celeb that wasn't afraid to put it out there.

ICSI?.....

July 24 2008, 8:19 AM

I think he has a really low count.....so maybe they just finally found one good sperm and did ICSI.....I remember MiMi Rogers and he wanted kids and couldn't. She did end up having a kid after they divorced. But just like DE, Suri may be a Donor sperm kiddo.

And the nursing staff told me he had a almost nil sperm count, so I do believe it is true. The other nurse told her to shut up right away, but it was already out there.

Alexis Stewart,

July 24 2008, 7:51 AM

Martha's daughter has been really open about her struggles with IF. She's 42 and had done 8 or so IVFs. She appeared on Oprah talking about her struggles. She's divorced and plans to keep trying with her one eggs because her mom wants a grandchild so bad. She's been criticized for admitting that mom funds this $28K/mo endeavor, but says she feels grateful to have the financial resources that are unavailable to most. I don't consider her a true celeb, but her openess is refreshing. BTW, I really appreciate your post, especially point #5 about required FSH testing!!!
XOXO Helena

Angelina

July 24 2008, 11:22 AM

This was recently published in US Weekly, not the most reliable source...but still interesting.

According to US Weekly, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt conceived their new twins, Vivienne and Knox, through in-vitro fertilization.

A source says, "They conceived through in vitro fertilization. They both desperately wanted more babies soon."

According to Dr. Arthur Wisot of L.A.'s Reproductive Medical Group, the chance of having fraternal twins at Angelina's age naturally, she's 33, is under 1%. But with in-vitro the chances become 25%.

Dr. Wisot says, "We live in an era of reproductive freedom, so anybody can do anything they want within legal limits."

A source says Angelina chose the procedure so "she wouldn't have to deal with the stress of trying to get pregnant. She could just knock it out."

"just knock it out??? Not deal with the stress of trying to conceive??"

Yeah, I certainly look upon IVF as the low stress option!!!!! Good grief.

Although at least Angelina Jolie admits to IVF, which you have to give her credit for.
