High FSH in early 30's/Can FSH fluctuate?

Hello,

I've been TTC#2 for 14 months with no BFP. I got pg right away with #1. I just got my FSH back and it was 17. I have had two previous tests for FSH over the last 9 months which were in the normal range (6-9). Does anyone know if FSH can fluctuate?

Also, I am wondering if anyone else is in their early 30's with high FSH and what your RE is doing for you. They've put me on Femara this cycle and will trigger when the follie is mature. They've also recommended DHEA three times per day - that is supposed to help some women lower FSH.

Any advice/experience would be helpful. I am trying to gather as much info on this as possible.

Thanks!

Angela

FSH values (preg ment)

Hi Angela -

I have no answers but Alex, who is a very knowledgable and supportive person on this board, responded to a similar question:http://www.network54.com/Forum/209394/message/1246327607/well...

Also, here is a website that was also really helpful for me when I first found out about my high FSH:http://highfshinfo.com/

Finally, FSH does fluctuate. I have been as high as 27 and as low as 8.8 (not for a while though). I haven't taken or done anything to try to lower or that might adversely impact and it still fluctuates quite a bit for me. Many women on this board have a variety of things they have tried to lower FSH and I am sure they will share them with you. When I hit 27 (this year when I turned 35), basically my RE said that even IVF would be a challenge. I went to another RE for a second opinion who did a Clomid Challenge and she also said that I would not have been a good IVF candidate that month due to very low egg count (I did have a ~13 FSH that month). However, I found out a few weeks after that I was pregnant! Don't give up - it can happen and it seems to happen more than doctors realize. Good luck!

Best,
Holly

Hi Angela

I'm so sorry you have to be here.

Yes, FSH can fluctuate. When I was 33 I had it tested three months in a row and it was: 24, 12, 25, and 5. You can see my signature below for details of my TTC journey.

You are lucky that your RE will still work with you. Many REs go straight to the donor egg speech when they see an elevated number. But the fact is that while you may not respond as well to fertility drugs as women without elevated FSH, no one can say whether or not you will get pregnant. I think the fact that you've had a successful pregnancy before is a HUGE positive in your favour. It seems to me that most women who've been pregnant before go on to have success, though it may take a while.

As for more information, keep reading this board (a lot of women here are in their 30s), the over-40 board and the New Pregnant Despite High FSH Board. Also, read highfshinfo.com. That site was created by a graduate of this board.

Best of luck to you!

Hi Angela

YES it can fluctuate; mine was 37 and my RE wouldn't even take me as a patient; told me to do egg donation; I was also 40 years old; I was so upset I started reading on the net and bought Fertility Blend at GNC and also went to accupunture and took chinese herbs. Low and behold I was pregnant two months later! I now have a five month old healthy baby boy!! (I also cut down on alcohol and caffeine)

Herbs?

Hi Kay,

could you tell me what Chinese herbs you took? Do you think that two-three glasses of white wine twice a week and one coffee a day can stay?

Thanks,
Petra
