If a private organisation, having been advised of the law about imperial measurements, continues to refuse to change metric signs what legal action can a private citizen take to force them to change their signs?

Apologies for stealing your wording, but it's a valid point.

I am not sure what point you are trying to make as the law requires imperial measurements it does not require metric measurements. However it is interesting to note that where private organisations have used imperial weights the law has reacted very harshly so it does appear that the state which is essentially pro metric even though the majority of the electorate are against operates 2 standards, one for weights where it takes action and another for distances where it does not. This leaves my original question as to what can be done to enforce the law which requires imperial measurements.

I'm talking about people who breach the law by using imperial measurements when they should be using metric measurements prescribed by law, eg Metric Martyrs and those selling soft drinks by the half pint, etc.
I'm sure that the authorities will enforce imperial measurements in the same way, as with the Austrian bar.
I don't think that this should be in this forum though.

Weights and volumes are covered by trading standards officers and they will take action to enforce the law.Distances are not the responsibility of Trading Standards,I have asked, and it appears that there is no other body to ensure enforcement of the law which is why it is down to the private citizen but if met with a total brick wall what can be done in terms of legal enforcement.
Re use of this forum it specifically states it requests questions about the law and says BWMA will try to answer them.

There are no penalties under the 1994 Traffic Regulations for Councils breaching the regulations. The only legal route for a member of the public is by covering or pulling down the sign under section 131 of the 1980 Highways Act.
This is the provision used by Tony Bennett when taking down metric signs. As regular visitors to these forums will be aware, however, Tony Bennett was subsequently convicted of criminal damage and theft. His appeal is to be heard at the end of this month.

Sorry Mark, what I meant was that your single question had grown into a discussion between two people, which is not appropriate for this forum.

Answers to Mark Star and Ross.
I offer the following answer to Mark's original question:
1. Report the matter in the first instance to the County, Metroplitan or Unitary Authority highways department, which has delegated legal responsibility in this matter. If that fails...
2... you could try - at huge expense - to bring an action for 'Judicial Review' in the High Court.
3. Or you could take direct action and amend the sign or remove it since Section 131(2) Highways Act authorises the 'pulling down or obliteration' of signs unlawfully placed on the highway.
I offer the following answer to Ross's question:
1. Report them to Trading Standards. With a bit of luck, they'll be down there mob-handed with two Police Officers accompanying them before you can say 'pound of bananas'
