| - Two-metre waves set SA surfing tone
By Rob Stone
EASTLONDON - The three-day O'Neill 2A rated SA Open of Surfing was surfed in solid two-metre waves at Nahoon Reef here yesterday, the opening day.
The event was the men's open division and the top surfers took advantage of favourable conditions with some high scoring rides and explosive surfing on the big waves.
Three Border surfers - Tyrell Johnson, Devyn Mattheys and Keegan Nel - were all placed first in their respective heats while Brent Corby and Dean Knox, two other locals, claimed second places.
The big upset of the day was the elimination of Bradley Bricknell, normally a master of the reef, but he unfortunately failed to find the long rides.
With further westerly winds predicted, conditions look set for another great day of surfing today when the women contest the quarter-finals, with the U20 boys and second round of the men's open heats to follow.

Mind you - taking it from a UK perspective...
Can you imagine waves 2 miles tall? | |
